Fun Demental

Alternate Shadows and friends have collaborated to form Fun Demental a Comedy Charity Event which will raise funds for local charity Demelza Hospice and MIND.

Fun Demental will be hosting a comedy revue show Night of The Burning Pessary on Saturday 2 April 8pm at The Kings School (School Hall, The Precinct ME1) in Rochester.

To raise funds before the show Fun Demental are looking for people to pay for a phrase or word which will then be written into the show and performed live on the night.

‘We’re encouraging people to be as inventive as possible,’ says Richard Harding founder of Alternate Shadows ‘we look forward to incorporating strange words or funny one-liners into our show and it’s all for a good cause so what could be better? All joking aside though we hope that as well as raising a few laughs and money for two great charities we can also help to raise awareness of the work that they do.’

Phrases, words and donations can be shared via our Gofundme page:

https://www.gofundme.com/fundemental

Suggested donations are £20 for a phrase of up to 10 words and £5 a word but if you struggle with words then straight donations can be made instead or you could book a ticket to watch the show on the night.

Night of the Burning Pessary will include comedy, films, and live music from Sarah Baker and Medway Rock Duo Quirk.

After a decade-long hiatus, former Alternate Shadows devil Alan Roots has frogmarched Justin and the Argonauts guitarist Calvin Beedle back to the stage to reform melodic musical duo Quirk. Greyer, beardier, better. They hope.

A raffle will also be held on the night so all donations are gratefully accepted, please contact Fun Demental on the contact details below.

A bit about the charities

Mind - For Better Mental Health

Mental health is an issue that’s rarely discussed openly and there is still a fair amount of stigma that surrounds someone suffering from mental health problems. Surprisingly 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year and between one in 12 and one in 15 children and young people are thought to deliberately self-harm. MIND help remove the stigma surrounding mental health issues so that people can get the support they need and they won't give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets both support and respect.

Demelza - Hospice Care For Children

Demelza runs hospices in Sittingbourne, Kent and in Eltham, South East London as well as at-home care in East Sussex. The charity provides vital care and a place to play, relax and recharge, for more than 800 children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and their families. Demelza relies almost entirely on fundraising, donations and gifts in wills and must raise over £10.5 million a year to operate.
