Who We Are

Julian Burrows

I heard about Alternate Shadows from an ad in The Net magazine in 2016.
Initially, I helped with the lighting for a murder mystery then contributed to a short film, or was it the other way round? Either way, that was my first experience of acting since my school days over 55 years ago.
I was then asked to perform for a church production in aid of charity, which involved inventing my part and scripting it. Despite this it seemed to go well, and most of the audience reported enjoying it as much as I did. I have acted as with Alternate Shadows as a "customer" for the training of Pharmacy students, at the University of Kent and was told by the examiner that I could work with her any time, which was a massive confidence boost for me. I have acted twice in Bombed Out, a murder mystery, Again, I had a ball, and the review from the W.I. couldn't have been better.
Despite being 67 I'm still having to work, and I also belong to a writing group, and oddfellows, some would say I'm odder than most, I'm really glad I contacted Alt Shads when I did. Everyone I've met are really friendly and I was welcomed warmly from the off. I didn't realize how active Alternate Shadows is, and has been in the community, and hope I can continue to be a part of it for a long time to come.
